Nokia C3 Review
The C3 is one of Nokia’s newest handsets aimed at the social networking and messaging market. It may not be the killer phone meant to compete with technologically superior and expensive smartphones of other brands, but the phone’s simple and colorful personality mixed with its affordable price makes it a hit in the mobile market.
In all its essence, the Nokia C3 is a bare-bones phone which reflects on its price range. However, people should not be put off by its basic features because it really provides more bang for your buck.
Compact and Light Design
The Nokia C3 is a QWERTY bar phone which measures just 115.5 x 58.1 x 13.6 mm and weighs only 114 grams. The compact nature of the phone makes it easy to handle and carry around because of its pocket-friendly design.
Available Colors
The C3 is available in Black, Golden White, Slate Gray, and Hot Pink allowing a variety of color options that fit with the user’s personality.
Vivid Display
The Nokia C3 has a TFT screen with 256 thousand colors displaying at a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels or 2.4 inches diagonally.
QWERTY Keyboard and Navigation Buttons
The C3 features a standard 4-row QWERTY keyboard with reasonably-sized keys. This makes for faster typing while using the phone’s many features.
Furthermore, the D-Pad and soft keys can be configured to allow for faster navigation through the menus. By default, the two soft keys are configured to open the dedicated contacts and the messaging options.
Memory and Storage
This simple phone has a storage capacity of 55MB for the internal storage but allows up to 8GB of extra space via its microSD slot. The internal storage allows up to 1000 entries in the phonebook. The phone is shipped with a 2GB card upon purchase.
Aside from its 55MB internal storage, the C3 has 64MB of RAM and 128MB of ROM.
Data and Network Capabilities
The phone functions in GSM Mode via 2G networks with operating frequencies of 850, 900, 1800, or 1900 Megahertz.
The Nokia C3 operates in GPRS and EDGE networks but sadly is not compatible with 3G. The phone also does not have any GPS capabilities. Despite these small setbacks, the C3 is WiFi Capable and is convenient to use when browsing the internet in WiFi HotSpots.
The C3 also has Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP and EDR connectivity as well as USB 2.0 connectivity via its microUSB slot.
Camera
The Nokia C3 has a simple 2 Megapixel camera allowing it to take high quality pictures with dimensions of up to 1600 x 1200 pixels. It can also record video in QCIF format at 15 frames per second.
Messaging Capabilities
Because the C3 was developed with socializing in mind, it features a multitude of messaging options including SMS, MMS, Email and Push Email, as well as Instant Messaging.
Internet Browsing
The Nokia C3 is preinstalled with its own browser capable of opening WAP 2.0 and xHTML websites as well as the Opera Mini Browser which can open standard HTML websites.
Radio
The C3 has an integrated radio which has RDS capabilities allowing users to tune in to their favorite programs and stations without having to tinker with the radio tuning. The visual radio which was popular in Nokia’s Express Music devices is also available in the phone allowing a convenient interface from which to play FM stations.
Games and Apps
Despite being an S40 phone, the C3 can still be installed with standard Java MIDP 2.0 games and applications with social network integration as well as apps which can be downloaded from the Nokia OVI store.
Among the Java apps preinstalled in the phone include social networking tools, a light video player, a light mp3 player, Flash Lite v3.0, a Voice command and dialing app, a small organizer, and predictive text input.
Long Battery Life
One of the most popular features of the Nokia C3 is its battery life. The Li-Ion 1320 mAh battery allows a stand-by time of up to 800 hours and a talk time of up to 7 hours.
Included Accessories
The C3 is sold with basic accessories such as a travel charger and a one-piece handsfree set for the 3.5 mm audio jack. Sadly, no USB cable is included in the box.
